Northern Alliance Advancing Towards Herat

The forces of the Northern Alliance, which are now carrying out an offensive on the Taliban positions, have advanced in the direction of Herat and seized Chakhcharan, the key town in the western part of Afghanistan, reported the NBC television company with reference to representatives of the Alliance's leadership. According to its data, the Alliance's forces have successfully taken advantage of the possibilities for the offensive which emerged after the American air strikes at the Taliban positions. However, the Taliban movement's representatives refute the statement of the Northern Alliance about its progress in the Herat direction and the capture of the town of Chakhcharan, reports the NBC company.
