Russia And Argentina To Discuss Economic And Scientific Cooperation

The 4th session of the Russian-Argentinian intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation opened Tuesday in Buenos Aires. Head of the Russian delegation, deputy minister of economic development and trade Vladimir Kapustin said in an interview with RIA Novosti that the commission's activities were aimed at finding ways of more effective use of new opportunities emerging under the conditions of transit economy. According to him, Russian enterprises can feasibly increase their export of energy equipment, production of metallurgy, construction equipment, and fertilizers to Argentina. Argentinians raise the issue of increasing supplies of their traditional goods and aspire for removing the ban on beef export to Russia which was introduced following the foot-and-mouth disease epidemics that spread over many parts of the country early this year. The agreement "On Avoiding Double Taxation" to be signed in the course of the commission's work is to promote the common task to increase the turnover. The document was drafted 8 years ago, and it will be the first agreement of this kind in the Russian-Argentinian relations. The agreement "will improve the investment climate, and create a legal space to give huge opportunities for partnership and rapprochement of our markets," thinks deputy finance minister Sergei Shatalov, member of the Russian delegation.
