Tbilisi To Hand Over To Russia 13 Militants Detained In Georgia

According to RIA Novosti, Tbilisi will extradite 13 militants detained in Georgia, to Russia on Saturday. They were all delivered to the airport in the morning and will be sent to Russia within the next few hours. Georgia's law-enforcers have so far declined to comment on this information. An armed group of 13 rebels transgressed on June 6 the Russo-Georgian border and illegally penetrated in the Mesty district of Georgia, where they ran across Georgian border guards who detained and disarmed them. On June 12, the court of the Vake-Saburtalin district of Tbilisi met the petition filed by Georgia's state security ministry and issued a warrant on a 3-month-long preliminary detention of the border transgressors. On September 5, the district court of Tbilisi extended the term for one month. The Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia ruled to extradite the militants at the request of Russian prosecutors. In this connection, Russia's foreign ministry stressed that Moscow was satisfied with Georgia's decision to extradite to Russia the group of Russian citizens suspected of terrorist activities and detained and disarmed last June on Georgia's territory. According to the statement by Russia's foreign ministry received by RIA Novosti Thursday, Moscow expects the Russo-Georgian anti-terrorism cooperation to be fruitful and efficient. The Russian side called upon Tbilisi to further cooperate within Resolution 1373 of the UN Security Council on barring international terrorism and searching, extraditing and bringing to justice those involved in terrorist acts.
