Mongolian-Chinese Commission On Checking Mongolia-China Border To Start Operating In Ulan Bator

The joint Mongolian-Chinese commission on checking the state border between Mongolia and China has embarked on work in Ulan Bator. A RIA Novosti correspondent reports that at the first meeting the commission will consider and possibly adopt a plan of activities for 2001-2003. The commission members will also determine the composition of working groups and commissions to take part in the demarcation of the state border. The international agreement on the frontier between Mongolia and China was signed in 1962. It envisioned that the state border between the two counties be defined and marked in two years' time. The first check of the frontier line between Mongolia and China was conducted in 1984. Since then, no such work has been done.
