Russian And Portuguese Presidents To Meet In The Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin will conduct negotiations in the Kremlin with Portuguese leader Jorge Sampaio who yesterday arrived in Moscow for his first official visit. High on the agenda will be the most urgent international problems. First of all, the President will speak about new threats and challenges which have lately manifested themselves so dramatically, and also about pooling the efforts of the states in combating international terrorism. It is also planned to discuss questions of upgrading the activity of the OSCE. Beginning with January 2002, Portugal will be presiding at this international organisation. Apart from that, the Presidents plan to analyse the possibilities of ending the civil war in Angola. For over ten years now, Russia, Portugal and the USA have been observing the peace process in Angola under the decision of the United Nations. In that African country, rich in oil and diamonds, confrontation continues between the central authorities and the UNITA movement, headed by Jonsas Savimbi.
