President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent a message of greeting to the participants in the 4th meeting of the Russian-Chinese committee of friendship, peace and development which opened in Moscow. The text of this message was read out by Vice-Premier of the government of Russia Ilya Klebanov. The message says, in particular, that the Treaty of Goodneighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation between Russia and the PRC, signed last July, laid a firm foundation of Russian-Chinese relations. The message notes that assistance to a direct dialogue of the citizens of the two countries, to contacts of government organisations, and to cooperation of the business circles is the public's task on implementing this treaty. The message of greeting by PRC chairman Jiang Zemin which was read out at the meeting says that it takes all-round support by the Chinese and Russian peoples to ensure that China and Russia be "friends for good and never enemies".
