Russia Attaches Particular Importance To Red Cross Work In North Caucasus

In Russia particular importance will be attached to the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross Committee (ICRC) in the North Caucasus. This was discussed on Tuesday, at a meeting between Yakob Kellenberg the president of the ICRC and Igor Ivanov the Minister for Foreign Affairs. According to Ivanov, Red Cross humanitarian aid to Russia was 27 million dollars in 2001. Igor Ivanov stated that "on the whole, especially beneficial relations are being formed" with the ICRC. "We intend to provide all necessary assistance to Red Cross members," he emphasised.
