Northern Alliance Leadership Takes A Decision To Start An Offensive On Kabul

At its conference, the higher leadership of the Northern Alliance, under the chairmanship of President of the Islamic State of Afghanistan Burhanuddin Rabbani, took a decision to start an offensive on Kabul, reports the Pakistani newspaper The Frontier Post. The offensive will be carried out by a special 7,000-unit which has been formed of soldiers from the northern provinces of Takhar, Badakhshan and Balkh. Apart from that, this unit has been set the task of ensuring law and order in the capital after its capture. According to the newspaper, the conference was held in the town of Gulbakhar, some eighty kilometres north of Kabul. It was attended by leader of the Ittihaad-i-Islami party Abdul Rasuf Sayyaf, Interior Minister Younus Qanuni, Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullah and prominent generals and Afghan leaders Sayed Hussein Anwari, Haji Kadyr, Muttalib Beg, Bismillah Khan and others. In the opinion of The Frontier Post, the main result of the conference in Gulbakhar is that first of all it is necessary to seize Kabul and then to talk with the supporters of the former King of Afghanistan about the distribution of portfolios in the future post-Taliban government.
