Russian Foreign Minister To Leave For New York On November 9

Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov will leave for New York on November 9. In New York, the minister will participate in the crucial segment of the 56th Session of the UN General Assembly -- a political debate of heads of states and foreign ministers. In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on September 11, for the first time in many years, the forum has been delayed until a later date. The goal of the political discussion at the session is to compare positions within the international community on such pressing issues as strategic stability, equal security for all states, strengthening the UN role as a coordinator in preserving international peace and security, and creating conditions for sustainable development and prosperity of all world nations. The priority goal of this session is to search for a joint response to the unprecedented terrorist challenge the world is facing.
