Russia, European Union To Continue Talks On Steel Trade In Brussels Next Week

Russia and the European Union will continue talks on steel trade in Brussels next week, sources at the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade reported noting that the talks will be held November 14-16. The first round of talks between Russia and the EU on trade in steel was held in Moscow November 6. The talks focused on signing a new agreement on steel. The term of the current agreement signed between Russia and the European Association of Coal and Steel in 1997 expires December 31, 2001. The sources at the Russian trade department reported that discussion of the issue on the new agreement is currently at the embryo stage. Russia will agree with the EU conditions of trade in steel with due regard of opinions of the Russian metallurgic complex's representatives. Russian metallurgists are interested in increasing the volume of quotas for steel deliveries to the European Union.
