USAID Administrator On Aid For Afghanistan

Andrew Natsios, head of the USAID (US Agency for International Development), has held talks with Turkmenistan authorities in Ashgabad discussing US assistance to Afghanistan. Natsios said this after his Sunday meeting with Mukhammed Nazarov, chairman of the National Security Committee and advisor to the Turkmen President on legal issues and coordination of law-enforcement and military agencies' activities. The USAID chief said his agency's nine cargo planes had delivered to Turkmenistan tent protective covers, wool blankets, and food within November 5 and 9. Seven more planes are to arrive in Turkmenistan next week. Natsios noted that Afghanistan held the first place in the American list of humanitarian aid addressees. He said that the US provided for over 80% of food aid to the Afghan people. After visiting Ashgabad, Natsios headed for Tashkent.
