Russian customs officers have seized a large amount of contraband dried trepang on the Russian-Chinese border in the Maritime Territory (the Far East). On Sunday, the customs officers at the Tury Rog checkpoint found 2,190 kilogrammes of dried trepang hidden in a KAMAZ truck bound for China, the press centre of the Far Eastern Customs Department has reported. This was one of the largest amounts of contraband trepang seized in the Maritime Territory this year. Trepang, an invertebrate sea mollusc used in traditional Oriental medicine and cuisine, is in high demand in Asia.
