Official:Milosevic extradition illegal

Vojislav Kostunica prepares to submit a law for collaboration with the International Court of Justice due to the illegal nature of the current situation. The extradition of Slobodan Milosevic was illegal.

The Democratic Opposition of Serbia, led by President Vojislav Kostunica, is preparing to draft a law for the Serbian Parliament to pass, after opposition from the Federal Parliament.

The DOS admitted that the current state of affairs, with citizens being extradited to The Hague without cover from the proper legislation, is illegal. In an interview with Belgrade Radio Station B92, DOS deputy Dragan Marsicanin declared that “We have to stop what is happening right now – the extradition of people to The Hague without any legal foundation and in breach of Constitutions and the law”.

It will be remembered that the Federal Supreme Court declared the extradition of ex-President Slobodan Milosevic to be illegal, after he was hurriedly spirited out of the country following a decision taken by a fraction of the Cabinet.

The extradition of Milosevic should therefore be referred to as “kidnapping” and his detention as “illegal imprisonment”. Under international law, a notion to which the ICJ is apparently blind, Slobodan Milosevic should be freed immediately and a proper indemnity should be paid.
