Mexican Energy Minister To Leave For Norway And Russia To Discuss Situation On International Oil Market

Mexican Energy Minister Ernesto Martens will visit Russia and Norway from December 17 to 21, Mexico's Energy Ministry said in a communique. Martens will meet with his European counterparts to analyse the situation on the international oil market. In particular, on November 18, Martens is expected to meet with Russian Energy Minister Igor Yusufov in Moscow. Mexico, one of the world's largest oil producers, is not a member of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries. Several days ago, the Mexican government expressed its readiness to reduce oil exports by 100,000 barrels a day from January 1, 2002. The reduction will be made if OPEC reiterates its decision to reduce oil production and if other countries follow suit.
