George Robertson Appoints Director Of NATO Information Bureau In Moscow

NATO Secretary General George Robertson appointed director of the Alliance's information bureau in Moscow on Tuesday, on the eve of his visit to Russia. To take the post is Rolf Welberts, a German diplomat who had won the contest arranged by the NATO headquarters. The NATO chief unveiled the information bureau while on a Russian visit in February, 2001, which was in line with the Russia-NATO Founding Act on Mutual Relations, Cooperation and Security the sides signed in Paris in May, 1997. The bureau was set up to provide the Russian public with information about the North Atlantic Alliance and issues related to security in general.
