UN residence pillaged in Mazar-i-Sharif

The disorder that was feared to come in the wake of the Northern Alliance has already started to appear. The UN is left without provisions, without materials, without humanitarian aid, without vehicles.

Bandits have systematically attacked the United Nations Organisation in Mazar-i-Sharif, to such an extent that the organisation does not have a single vehicle left and all its materials have been stolen. The Northern Alliance forces have been incapable of installing law and order in the city, while they are accused by some of being involved in the looting.

UN spokesperson Eric Falt claimed that “The UN residence has been completely ransacked”. He said the radio equipment had been taken, all its humanitarian aid materials and all its vehicles. He said that the humanitarian aid convoys from Qetta in Pakistan to Kandahar had stopped circulating due to bandit activity, and he claimed that the UN could not find any drivers who would dare to venture into such a chaotic and dangerous mission.
