NATO Not Involved In U.S.-led Anti-terror Campaign In Afghanistan

For the moment NATO is not involved in any military operations in Afghanistan, the alliance's secretary-general, George Robertson, said Friday as he was replying to questions from journalists following a Kremlin meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Robertson, NATO is now considering ways of providing all military opportunities for the United Nations along with humanitarian aid for Afghan civilians. He reminded his audience that Russia and adjacent countries did not rule out their possible contribution to humanitarian operations in the region. The US-led counter-terrorist coalition in Afghanistan presently groups only some of the NATO member countries led by the United States, stressed the NATO chief.
