Massacre in Mazar-i-Sharif

After the looting of the United nations offices in Mazar-i-Sharif and Jalalabad, the Northern alliance have perpetrated what certain sectors of the international community feared – one of the many barbarous acts carried out by this faction which made it infamous before it was swept into northern Afghanistan by the Taleban.

Between 400 and 600 bodies have been found by Red Cross personnel on the streets of Mazar-i-Sharif, since the city was taken by the Northern Alliance on November 9th. 180 bodies had already been buried.

The Red Cross did not confirm the nature of the deaths, but sources in Mazar-i-Sharif rule out disease or suicide.

This massacre took place after the Taleban departed so for this reason, the dead cannot have fallen in combat, as some press sources have postulated, in na attempt to present a cosmetic image of the new “Liberators” of Afghanistan, the Northern Alliance.
