Islamabad To Host Conference On Restoration Of Afghan Economy

On Tuesday Islamabad will launch a three-day conference on the restoration of Afghanistan's economy. The conference will be held under the aegis of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. The conference will gather over 200 Afghan representatives and a number of foreign experts. The conferees will discuss plans and ways to restore the country's economy which has been damaged over the past two decades of civil wars and to solve the current humanitarian crisis. Experts believe the revival of agriculture will be a priority at the initial stage. According to them, this will make it possible to partially eliminate the problem of provision of Afghans with food, to create new jobs and to give millions of peasants sustenance means. The conferees will also discuss the revival of national education and health care, the creation of new jobs for urban residents and the restoration of transport facilities and irrigation. Recommendations to be made at the conference will be meant for a future Afghan government which is due to be formed quite soon.
