Russia And Brazil Come Out For Multipolar World Order

Russia and Brazil come out for creating a multipolar world order, official representative of the Russian foreign ministry Alexander Yakovenko told RIA Novosti on Friday in connection with the official visit of Brazilian president Fernando Cardoso to Russia, scheduled for January 13-16. Both countries come out for a stronger role of the UN and its Security Council in ensuring international stability and preserving treaties in the field of nuclear disarmament. At the same time, the sides express concern over the attempts to introduce the concept of "humanitarian intervention" into the practice of international relations. The diplomat pointed out, that "by resolutely condemning international terrorism, our countries are going to strengthen collaboration in the anti-terror struggle on the bilateral basis and within the framework of the international coalition". He also said that on December 12, 2001 a Russian-Brazilian inter-government Declaration of the Struggle against Terrorism was signed in Brazil. Yakovenko believes that "the approaches of the sides to the settlement of conflict situations in various regions of the world are also close." This concerns, in particular, Afghanistan, the Middle East and Angola. "Experience shows that there is sufficient basis and a collaboration potential for positively influencing the search for ways of settling contradictions in most explosive regions of our planet," the diplomat pointed out.
