Council Of Europe Sees Progress In Human Rights Situation In Chechnya

The Council of Europe sees progress in human rights situation in the Chechen Republic, Chairman of the Council of Europe's Ministers Committee, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Atanas Valionis told reporters after a meeting with Russian Minister for the Affairs of the Chechen Republic Vladimir Yelagin. According to Valionis, the judicial system is being restored in Chechnya, the Constitution worked at, the social sphere has seen some improvements. This testifies to positive shifts as far as human rights observation in Chechnya is concerned, stressed the Council of Europe's representative. At the same time, Valionis considers the situation in the republic a difficult one. There are a lot of reproofs, proceeding from the data of Chechen monitoring. Atanas Valionis thinks the situation in the Chechen Republic should be resolved politically, on condition of human rights observation.
