Moscow Expects Pakistan To Curb Extremists

Moscow hopes that Islamabad will be consistent in implementing measures announced by Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf for terminating the activity of extremist organizations operating from Pakistan-controlled territory. It is only then that conditions for an improvement in South Asia will appear, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov as he held consultations with his Pakistani counterpart Aziz Khan in the Russian foreign office Tuesday. For his part, Aziz Khan voiced Pakistan's desire to develop good-neighbourly relations with India, praised Russia's efforts to help normalise the situation in South Asia and encouraged further Russian-Pakistani cooperation in regional and international affairs. The consultations also dealt with bilateral matters and Afghanistan.
