President Emomali Rakhmonov of Tajikistan calls upon the world community to help in the post-conflict settlement in Afghanistan. This assistance must be adequate, he said, to a very complex situation that the country is now faced with. Emomali Rakhmonov said this on Wednesday at a meeting with special envoy of the Japanese Prime Minister Munzo Suzuki. The Tajik President again called upon the world community not to confine itself only to political and military aspects of the Afghan settlement. He also said that Tajikistan would like to see a reliable friend and partner in the person of Japan and expressed gratitude to the Japanese side for its assistance to the republic in resolving its humanitarian problems and in training personnel. Emomali Rakhmonov hailed the opening of Japan's embassy in Dushanbe, the activity of which, he said, will make it possible to resolve issues of the further development of Tajik-Japanese cooperation more efficiently.
