Russia does not see any reasons for deployment of foreign military contingent in Georgia or Azerbaijan

Russia does not see any reasons for the deployment of the foreign military contingent in Georgia or Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Konstantin Totsky, the Russian Federal Frontier Service Director, told at the briefing on Wednesday.

"We often hear of the threat to these countries' security but we have no idea of its origin," Totsky stressed. According to him, Russia, as well as other neighbours of Georgia and Azerbaijan, cannot present such threat.

"As far as Nagorny Karabakh is concerned, the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan have often mentioned that peaceful settlement is the only way to solve this problem," the Russian general said. According to him, Russia has a similar standpoint on the deployment of foreign bases in Central Asia. "We do not see any reasons for this," Totsky stressed.
