CIS Interparliamentary Assembly to Strengthen Its International Position

After he was elected the Chairman of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS, Sergey Mironov, the Speaker of the Council of Federation of Russia, said, 'Our Assembly keeps working and is not about to slow down'. Mr. Mironov further said he was 'going to do everything possible to strengthen the international position of the Interparliamentary Assembly and to bring closer together the laws of our countries while striving to further develop the parliamentary law'. Mr. Mironov also noted that the Interparliamentary Assembly had developed a convention as to the unified standards of democracy as concerns suffrage and that after the document has been signed by the heads of state of the CIS, 'we may even get somewhat ahead of Europe in this way'.

On March 26, a joint session of PACE and the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS will be held, then - the Second International Conference on Struggle Against International Terrorism.
