Speaker Of Russian Parliament To Meet Chairman Of People's Republic Of China

PRC chairman Jiang Zemin acquainted State Duma (the lower house of Russian parliament) speaker Gennady Seleznyov with the Chinese experience of joining the World Trade Organisation (WTO). He met with the Chinese leader in Beijing on Tuesday and expressed the hope that this experience will be useful for Russia as well. China became a full-fledged WTO member on December 11. According to Jiang Zemin the country spent 15 years in negotiations on the accession to this organisation. Jiang Zemin stressed that an international organisation cannot be regarded full-fledged if it does not involve the most numerous nation of the world. At the same time, he concluded that only practical WTO membership will finally show its pros and cons.
