First Phase Of Border Complex Put Into Service On Russian-Chinese Frontier

On Wednesday the first phase of the Pogranichny-Avtomobilny border complex which ensures cargo transportation between Russia and China was put into service on the Russian-Chinese border. As the Pacific regional administration of the Federal Frontier Service (FPS) reported, the opening of the automobile crossing at Pogranichny settlement of the Maritime Territory (a Far-Eastern Russian region on the Sea of Japan coast) will make it possible to double the throughput of the border crossing point - to 200 trucks a day. It is planned to put the whole crossing complex into service in October 2000. Four automobile crossings on the Russian-Chinese border already operate in the Maritime Territory. Their emergence was caused by the growth of business cooperation between Russia and the PRC.
