Moscow Will Not Have To Pay For Military Base In Tajikistan

Russia's ambassador to Tajikistan, Maxim Peshkov, has denied reports by some Russian media that official Dushanbe will soon demand payment from Russia for leasing a military base stationed in the country. "All that was said about the leasing by Russia of a military base in Tajikistan is a blatant lie which does not correspond to reality," the ambassador said. Peshkov pointed out that the agreements concluded by Russia and Tajikistan on Russian military presence in the country include an agreement on the military base, under which the territory on which the base is located has been offered to Russia free of charge.
