Russia And Kazakhstan Cooperate In Protecting External Borders

The State Duma (lower house of parliament) has ratified a treaty between Russia and the Republic of Kazakhstan on cooperation in protecting external borders, signed in Moscow on October 21, 1994. The treaty provides a legal basis for Russian-Kazakh cooperation in protecting external borders, lays down main lines and character of this cooperation, and cements the course towards further contacts between Russia and Kazakhstan. The treaty envisages a regular exchange of information between border troops of Russia and Kazakhstan on the situation on external borders. According to the document, the sides will cooperate in search, intelligence and counter-intelligence operations and give necessary assistance to each other in training officers for border troops.
