The Russian finance ministry has paid $113.4 million of the debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the finance ministry reported pointing out that this was the first payment to the IMF this year. In accordance with the original schedule of payments, the sum should have been transferred on Saturday, January 5th, but since it will be a day-off the money has been remitted on Friday. The previous payment to the IMF was made on December 27th, 2001, and the next one will be made early in February. According to the Fund, the Russian debt to the IMF as of November 30th, 2001 amounted to $7.538 billion. Last year Russia, in accordance with the original schedule of payments, transferred to the IMF $2.067 billion.
