Russian-polish Crossing Gusev-galdap In Kaliningrad Region To Work Round-the-clock

The Russian-Polish crossing point Gusev-Galdap in the Kaliningrad region on Friday was put on round-the-clock operation. The ceremony was attended by Kaliningrad regional governor Vladimir Yegorov and Polish vice-premier Marek Pol. Yegorov told RIA Novosti that introduction of 24-hour working will increase the point's handling capacity more than three-fold. Until today the average traffic passing through the point was 400 to 500 cars and up to 1,000-1,200 people. Technically the point is able to let through 2,500 vehicles and up to 7,000 people. The Polish vice-premier said at a news conference that the full operation of the point would greatly cut down transport routes from south-western and eastern Europe to the Baltic countries and north-western Russia. Yegorov and Pol also backed the idea of building this year a joint border crossing point Mamonovo-Grzechodki.
