Parliament Of Ingushetia Fixed Pre-term Presidential Elections In The Republic For 7 April

The Parliament of Ingushetia at its extraordinary meeting on Tuesday fixed pre-term presidential elections in the republic for 7 April of this year. According to the press service of the republican parliament, deputies unanimously voted for that decision. Early presidential elections are being carried out in connection with the fact that Ruslan Aushev starting from the beginning of the year voluntarily resigned from the post of the head of the republic with the justification that it was necessary "to separate" presidential and parliamentary elections which had to take place in Ingushetia in March 2003. The future president of Ingushetia would be elected for a four-year term. The Parliament had had to fix the elections date in the course of two weeks from the moment Aushev released himself of his authority. Already the first presidential contender emerged. It is Alihan Amirkhanov, a supporter of Aushev, a State Duma deputy and member of the "Unity" faction, who on Monday officially announced his intention to run for president of the republic.
