Baghdad Calls Report By US State Secretary Colin Powell Unfounded Accusations

Baghdad called the report made by US State Secretary Colin Powell in the UN Security Council as unfounded accusations which contain nothing new. At a press conference, a representative of the Iraqi information ministry read, on behalf of its head Mohammad Said al-Sahhaf, his statement. The photo documents produced by Colin Powell have been called no more than animated cartoons in the statement.

For his part, scientific adviser of the Iraqi president's administration general Amer al-Saadi, who addressed the press conference in Baghdad on Wednesday evening, called the speech by Powell a typical American show. This show, the general said, is a direct violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1441 in compliance with which the UN member countries should present all available proofs to the UNMOVIC and IAEA commission.

The speech by Powell, the adviser pointed out, is meant for the uninformed public in order to convince it that aggression against Iraq is necessary.

Powell's report, Amer al-Saadi said, made a purposeful attempt to doubt the professional and accurate work of UNMOVIC and IAEA inspectors.
