Russian Foreign Ministry Controls Situation on Lithuanian Border in View of Transit Via Kaliningrad Region

Since February 1 the Russian Foreign Ministry will control the situation on the Russian-Lithuanian border in view of Kaliningrad transit (the Kaliningrad region is the Russian enclave in the West), official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Yakovenko told journalists on Saturday. A trilateral meeting on this problem between the European Union, Russia and Lithuania will be held in Brussels on February 5, he added.

The meeting will consider the implementation of the joint statement of the Russia-EU summit in Brussels, the situation on the border after Lithuania's introduction of new border control regulations since February 1, and forms and mechanisms of the issue of simplified transit documents. This will be the first meeting in this format. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Razov will head the Russian interdepartmental delegation.
