Ex-Yugoslav President loses villa

Ex-president of Yugoslavia Slobodan Milosevic has lost the case of buying, when he was the head of state, a comfortable villa in the prestigious district of Belgrade, Dedinje. The Belgrade court has found unlawful his buying the villa, estimated at 3 million dollars, for only 84,000 Yugoslav dinars (at the then rate only 4,500 dollars).

The court has also ruled that under the then laws Milosevic had no right to buy the villa because he had already had one.

The unlawful purchase was made on March 22, 1999, two days before NATO bombers began to pound Yugoslavia. With the permission of the Serbian government Milosevic bought the auxiliary premises of a former Chinese residence, found close to the presidential mansion.
