460 kg of nuclear production material stolen in Kirghizia

The strategic europium oxide used in nuclear production has been stolen from a facility in Kirghizia.

The press-service of the Kighiz Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti on Thursday that last night a few armed people in black masks broke into the warehouse of the chemical-mechanics plant situated in the village of Orlovka, the Chuisk region. The criminals beat and disarmed the guards of the warehouse and stole 23 boxes of the rare chemical element used for nuclear reactions. In addition, the given material is used in the production of steel, optical glass, etc.

Orlovka used to be a closed village back in Soviet times and a nuclear materials processing plant was based there.
