World Bank to grant credit to fight aids in Ukraine

The World Bank will allocate a 60 mln U.S. dollars against AIDS and tuberculosis epidemic in Ukraine. World Bank branch office in Ukraine said that the program would assist efforts taken by the Ukrainian government to decrease TB and AIDS death rate. The total cost of the anti-TB and AIDS program is 77 mln U.S. dollars, 17 mln U.S. dollars must be allocated by Ukraine.

The LIBOR interest rate of the credit granted for a period of 20 years is 2.7 annual interest.

According to the international organization "Medecins Sans Frontieres", Ukraine is leading Europe in spreading of HIV/AIDS. The number of infected people grows by 300-400 annually, the total number of registered HIV/AIDS infected people is 240 thousand /about 1 percent of Ukrainian grown-ups/. About 680 thousand people suffer from TB /that is more than 2.1 percent of grown-up population/, 120 thousand people suffer from the active form of TB.
