UN inspectors continue mission in Iraq

On Monday UN experts have inspected the Al-Karama plant in Baghdad's Waziria district. The plant is engaged in manufacturing short and medium-range ballistic missiles which are not banned under the UN resolutions on Iraq.

The inspectors were let in unhampered.

The plant is included in Iraq's structure of the Ministry for Military Construction. In December 1998 during the Desert Fox operation the site was severely bombarded by the US and British aviation. The 12 missiles launched at it virtually leveled the plant to the ground.

The Al Karama plant is the 14th site visited by the UN inspectors since they resumed their work in Iraq last Wednesday.

The second team of inspectors visited a small private alcohol factory, north-east of Baghdad. The aim of their visit to this plant, where they spent nearly an hour, remains unclear.
