Leaders of Russia and China declare intention to continue their political dialogue

The heads of Russia and China stated that they intended to continue their intensive and trustful political dialogue, to expand and deepen the mutually advantageous economic cooperation, to increase cooperation in international affairs and to strengthen friendship between the peoples of the two countries. This is pointed out in the Joint Declaration which was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and PRC Chairman Jiang Zemin in Beijing on Monday.

As the document points out, the leaders of the two countries have stated that the deepening of the relations of strategic partnership between Russia and the PRC is the only correct strategic choice which follows from the long-term interests of the two countries and their peoples and is adequate to the challenges to the development of the world situation and international relations.

Having pointed out that in the past decade positive changes of historic importance had taken place in bilateral relations, Vladimir Putin and Jiang Zemin underscored that in the 21st century that has come, the social, political and economic foundation of Russian-Chinese relations was becoming more stable, mutual political trust is deepening, the traditional friendship between the peoples of the two countries is also deepening, and substantial results have been achieved in mutually advantageous cooperation. Close contacts between the leaders of the two countries play a guiding role in the development of bilateral relations.

The heads of the two countries "are unanimous in the opinion that the development of good-neighbourly relations, friendship and cooperation, and the deepening of strategic cooperation between Russia and China have broad prospects and a tremendous potential," the Declaration points out. The sides expressed determination to persevere with tireless efforts and uninterruptedly advance and raise the level of friendly and mutually advantageous cooperation between the two counties.

Vladimir Putin and Jiang Zemin confirmed their readiness to continue to strengthen the mechanism for holding mutual visits between the two countries and regular summit meetings, to raise the level of mutual trust in the political and military spheres, to constantly exchange views on the most important bilateral and international issues. The foreign policy, defence, law enforcement, economic, scientific and technological ministries and government departments will strengthen coordination and intensify cooperation, and friendly exchanges and business cooperation will grow stronger between the two countries.
