Chechen separatist emissary Zakayev to remain in custody until Dec. 5

The Court of Copenhagen has prolonged the term of custody for the Chechen separatist emissary Akhmed Zakayev until December 5, Michael Joergensen, the prosecutor in charge of Zakayev's case, told RIA Novosti by telephone.

The decision stemmed from the fact that Tuesday is the last day of custody as set by the Court of Copenhagen on November 12. The Chechen separatist emissary was arrested in Denmark on October 30, after the Russian side had provided the Danish authorities with materials proving Zakayev's involvement in terrorist activities.

On October 31, Moscow officially asked Copenhagen to extradite Zakayev. The Danish justice ministry, on its part, suggested that Russia supply more information about Zakayev before November 30.

On November 5, the Russian Prosecutor-General's Office supplied extra materials proving Zakayev's affiliation with Chechen terrorists to Danish Justice Minister Lene Espersen, who was visiting Moscow at that moment.

The Prosecutor-General's Office charges Akhmed Zakayev with the forming of a terrorist gang that committed acts of terrorism and other crimes on the territory of Russia.
