Smuggled trepang lot detained on Russian-Chinese border

A big smuggled lot of dry trepang has been detained in the Maritime territory on the Russian-Chinese border, the Ussuriysk customs press service has reported.

According to the press service's information, the operation was conducted on November 20th by the Ussuriysk and Far Eastern operative customs jointly with frontier guards and FSB officials. The lorry was detained at the Poltavsky customs checkpoint and delivered to the Ussuriysk customs terminal.

Customs officers found a cache in one of the walls of the container carrier. According to preliminary estimates, it contained about two tons of dry trepang packed in fifteen- and twenty-kilogram sacks. In China this will cost around five hundred thousand dollars.

The container was confiscated and criminal proceedings have been launched to investigate trepang smuggling.
