South Korean Foreign Minister: Korean Peninsula is steadily moving towards peace

The relations between the two Koreas are the most peaceful for the whole history of confrontation on the Korean peninsula, the South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Choe Song-hong was quoted as saying at the session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

According to the South Korean official, "the peaceful inter-Korean process has recommenced and is steadily making headway". The negotiations on all levels between the representatives of North and South Koreas and exchanges in all areas were resumed. Friday has seen the 5th meeting of the families, separated during the Korean war, the Minister said.

The next week, Koreas are planning to launch the works on restoration of the Trans-Korean Railway and the highways, which had been disconnected for half a century.

The resumption of the inter-Korean dialogue, which led to several major bilateral economic projects, in particular the plans to restore the Trans-Korean Railway and connect it to the Trans-Siberian Railway, may be considered as the success of the Russian diplomacy. The negotiations were resumed after the Russian Foreign Minister's visit to South and North Koreas in July of this year and the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of the two Koreas that followed it.
