Russia to supply 12 transport helicopters to Pakistan

In September, Russia will supply to Pakistan twelve Mi-17 transport helicopters with cargo capacity of up to 3 tons, the RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

The Pakistani press reports referring to sources in the country's foreign ministry that the 50-million-dollar contract for purchasing 16 helicopters was signed last June. The first four aircraft produced in Ulan-Ude, a Russian town in East Siberia, have been delivered to Pakistan earlier.

It was back in 1996 when Russia sold 12 helicopters to Pakistan for the last time.

The Mi-17 helicopter has been designed for transporting people, but can also be used to transport troops.
