Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions to hold 'join Russia' votes first

Yevgeny Balitsky, the head of the Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine signed an order from the central election commission to start working on a referendum for the region to join Russia.

"Today, within the framework of the forum of the public movement "We are together with Russia” of the Zaporizhzhia region, a draft resolution was read with a proposal to hold a referendum on the entry of the Zaporizhzhia region into the Russian Federation,” he wrote on Telegram channel.

According to him, more than 700 delegates supported the resolution.

Earlier, Sergei Aksyonov, the head of the Crimea, said that the authorities of the region were ready to support the Zaporizhzhia region in organizing the referendum on joining Russia.

Other regions of Ukraine to come next

Similar referendums, at which local residents will go to the polls to decide whether their regions should become part of Russia or not, may be held in other territories of Ukraine.

Olga Kovitidi, a member of the Federation Council from Crime, wrote on Telegram that Crimea's experience in integrating the region into Russia could be implemented in other Ukrainian territories.

"I think that the issue will not be limited to Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. We will undoubtedly help our brothers and sisters in Ukraine who were deceived and actually abandoned by the Ukrainian authorities that got so much entangled in lies," Kovitidi stressed.
