A meeting of the Great Volga Way international scientific-practical conference will be held in the grand hall of the National Library in Tallinn on Wednesday. The conferees will arrive in the Estonian capital on board the Lyubov Orlova motor ship. In addition to Tallinn, such meetings will be held in Helsinki, Riga and Stockholm.
The topic and route of the conference were not chosen by chance. They are linked with the trade routes of the first millennium, which were of particular importance for the establishment of close relations between the Western European, Baltic, Slavic, Finno-Ugric and Turk cultures and Mideastern civilisations on a huge territory - from Scandinavia to Iran, the press service of the Tallinn's City Hall said. The conferees are to discuss, in particular, the development of cultural contacts in this territory and relations between the Finno-Ugric nations and their neighbours.
Exhibitions, devoted to the anniversaries of the Russian cities, standing on the Great Volga Way, will be open within the framework of the conference - "Kazan is 1000 Years Old" and "St. Petersburg is 300 Years Old".
