US to consider imposing sanctions on China for buying Russian oil

U.S. Senator Rubio proposes to sanction China for purchasing Russian oil

US Republican Senator Marco Rubio has prepared a bill on sanctions for the transportation of oil and LNG from Russia to China, Bloomberg reports, citing a statement by the author of the initiative.

According to Rubio, China, buying oil from Russia, supports a special operation in Ukraine.

"Any organization, including Chinese state-owned companies, helping them (Russia) in these efforts should face serious consequences," the senator said in a statement.

Rubio's initiative was supported by North Dakota Senate member Kevin Kramer and Florida colleague Rick Scott.

However, Bloomberg notes that the bill is contrary to the policy of the White House, so its approval in the upper house of the US Congress is unlikely. At the same time, the cessation of oil supplies from Russia will force China to compete for raw materials from the Middle East and Africa, which will provoke a rise in prices.
