Xi Jinping will not visit Russia on Putin's invitation

Xi Jinping turns down Putin's proposal to visit Russia

Chinese President Xi Jinping turned down Putin's invitation to visit Russia, Radio Free Asia reports.

President Putin invited Chinese leader Xi Jinping to visit Russia during a telephone conversation on June 15. However, the Chinese President declined Putin's proposal, having said that it would be difficult for him to visit Russia in the near future due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The President of Russia sent the Chinese leader a proposal for a visit in accordance with diplomatic practice in response to the invitation to attend the Olympic Games. Yomiuri Shimbun, a Japanese publication, said that Putin hoped to use Xi Jinping's visit to avoid further deepening conflicts with the US and Europe.

In June, during a telephone conversation, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping agreed to expand cooperation in financial, industrial and energy sectors. The cooperation will develop taking into account the situation in global economy, which has become more complicated due to the illegitimate sanctions policy of the West.
