Expert names the two reasons why Zelensky wants to end the conflict before winter

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his desire to end hostilities in the country by the winter of 2022. Political scientist Yegor Kvasnyuk commented on the statement for Pravda.Ru.

Ukraine does not have the opportunity to fully survive the winter. And there are economic reasons for this.

“There won’t be food in the fall. What they needed to sell from food to Europe, they have already sold. Therefore, Zelensky says that before winter we will figure it out, stop it, and so on,” says Kvasnyuk.

Another reason why Kyiv wants to end the conflict is the lack of weapons in Europe and the United States. Now the Armed Forces of Ukraine need a break so that they can later be supplied with new weapons through lend-lease, which is given on credit for money. But the West does not have such an amount of military assistance to "change the course of Russia's military operation on the territory of the former Ukraine," the political scientist concluded.

Earlier, speaking to representatives of the G7 countries, Zelensky spoke about the timing of the end of the conflict in Ukraine. However, he stressed that it is too early to apply diplomatic methods.

"Ukraine will negotiate when it has the opportunity to do so. That is, when it restores a position of strength," the Agence France-Presse reported him as saying.
