Expert explains why Ukraine was prepares for a conflict with Russia

Military journalist, retired colonel Gennady Alekhin said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had been preparing for a military confrontation with Russia for a long time.

According to the military expert, from the very beginning of the special military operation it was clear that it would not be quick and easy. He connects this with the fact that the Armed Forces of Ukraine after the events of 2014 were armed.

At the same time, the nationalist battalions were reformed and strengthened. Alekhin also said that the junior and middle command staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were trained in specialized camps in the Western Ukraine. There they were trained by Western curators.

Alekhin himself thought that the moment of confrontation between Ukraine and Russia would come in the spring. But on February 21, when the Russian Federation officially recognized the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and the Lugansk People's Republic (DPR) as independent, it became clear that this moment would come much faster.

“One way or another, everyone understood that this moment would come. Personally, I thought that it would come in the spring, but I came to an unambiguous conclusion on February 21, when the DPR and LPR were recognized as independent republics. Everyone knew what it would be, but did not know the date. For example, I was mistaken for two months," Alekhin said in an interview with Ukraina.ru.

The expert added that he had no doubt that Ukraine would resist in the Donbass and Kharkov.
