Russia's Interior Minister supports creation of "security belt" around Afghanistan

Russia's Interior Minister Boris Gryzlov has supported the idea of creating a common "security belt" around Afghanistan. He made this statement on Friday in Dushanbe where he had arrived for a two-day working visit.

The idea of creating a common "security belt" around Afghanistan has already been expressed and now we must realise it, Gryzlov stated.

Most of drugs are being smuggled through the Tajik-Afghan border, the Russian Minister pointed out. After the anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan, the stream has not subsided, he said. Moreover, it has even intensified, according to Russian specialists. This is a major problem, and we must consolidate our efforts to resolve it, Boris Gryzlov said.
